A Lake Como engagement photoshoot is the embodiment of timeless romance. With its iconic villas and shimmering lakeside views, Lake Como offers a luxurious backdrop for couples.
As destination photographers with extensive experience photographing engagement photoshoots on the lake, we believe the most memorable imagery is created with thoughtful planning. Here’s how to plan a Lake Como engagement photoshoot that feels effortlessly luxurious and truly seamless.
Work With a Local Planner
When planning a Lake Como engagement photoshoot, local expertise is invaluable to your experience. Many of the most iconic locations require fees, advanced bookings and precise timing. Having trusted guidance ensures that your experience is truly effortless.
A local planner can assist with logistics, allowing you to focus on the experience itself. We love collaborating with teams such as Mitheo Events, WeddingBox Lake Como, Rossini Wedding, and The Wedding Boutique Italy. Their deep knowledge and extensive experience in Lake Como will help elevate every detail.
Choose Locations
Lake Como is endlessly beautiful from every angle, but selecting the right locations is what can transform an engagement photoshoot into something truly extraordinary.
Hotels
For couples drawn to luxurious surroundings, Lake Como's historic hotels offer a stunning variety. Mandarin Oriental Lake Como blends modern elegance with dramatic lake views, while the Grand Hotel Tremezzo offers a boutique atmosphere. Villa d’Este delivers classic grandeur, and the Hotel Passalacqua feels intimate and quietly magical, ideal for an editorial-style Lake Como engagement photoshoot.
Historic Villas
Iconic villas such as Villa Del Balbianello, Villa Melzi, or Villa Monastero are popular for their timeless architecture and gardens. These locations do require fees and advance coordination, making collaboration with your planner and photographer essential.
Public Locations
For an equally captivating setting, Parco Civico Teresio Olivelli offers architectural details and botanical gardens that feel like a hidden gem along the lake.
Plan for The Best Light
Lighting can define the mood of an engagement photoshoot, and Lake Como delivers many different moments of weather and sunshine. We recommend photographing either in the morning between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., or later in the afternoon from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
For couples wanting variety, plan a split session across both windows to create a beautifully curated final gallery. Consider taking a relaxed pause for lunch at Hotel Passalacqua overlooking the water in between sessions.
Curate Your Outfit
Your outfits play a defining role in the visual aesthetic of a Lake Como engagement photoshoot. Choose pieces that reflect your personal style while still complementing the luxury of the surroundings.
We recommend coordinating closely with your photographer and planner to select looks that work harmoniously across different locations. It's also important to note that some villas and hotels have restrictions on certain clothing, particularly bridal gowns.
To complete the look, professional hair and makeup ensures you feel polished, confident, and completely at ease in front of the camera. We always recommend Kellsie Bain Makeup for a stunning final look.
